In a perfect world, award-winning New York Times journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones would’ve ended up at Howard University anyway.
Instead of being held hostage by the whims of a conservative donor who used his influence at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill to politicize the school’s tenure process, Howard turned out to be Ms. Hannah-Jones’ first, best option all along.
Last week, after months in which her academic worthiness to be given tenure was debated, UNC-Chapel Hill’s board of trustees in a 9-4 vote offered Ms. Hannah-Jones tenure.
