THERE were a record number of entries for the British Eventing Horse Trials at Richmond Equestrian Centre at the weekend. The packed field included Olympic equestrian riders and national champions, such as Nicola Wilson, Ros Canter and Ian Stark. The trials also included under 21 and under 18 qualifying classes, and an abundance of local riders. Olympian Nicola Wilson said: “We are so lucky to have such a superb event on our doorstep. I took some experienced and inexperienced horses to compete at Richmond this weekend and was delighted with the Covid protocol that was successfully implemented. A great deal of hard work and preparation has clearly gone into making each phase a high standard and run so smoothly. Nicola Wilson’s excellent results with James and Jo Lambert’s Bulana are well known, from winning at Boekelo and Barbury to their individual bronze and team gold at the European Eventing Championships in 2017.
But the pair’s initial partnership did not look so promising and it took time to work out the key to this feisty mare.
Nicola started riding Bulana – known as “Berry” – in 2014, when they were second in the CIC2 (now CCI3 -S) at Pau Horse Trials, their first international event together.
“She’s always been such a trier and very positive and always ready to go go go,” says Nicola, speaking in an interview on episode 40 of The Horse & Hound Podcast, currently supported by NAF.
Hospice set to hire next advanced nurse trainee to mentorship programme
A nurse at a Wrexham hospice is hoping 2021 is the year she gets to celebrate her graduation and welcome a new trainee on to the wards.
Kayley Mulley, is the first graduate from Nightingale House Hospice’s Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) mentorship scheme. And the good news is that the hospice will accept its’ second student later this year.
The ANP course bridges the gap between clinical, like nurses, and medical staff, such as doctors and means those who qualify can relieve pressure points within the team, and are qualified to look and deal with patients who have more complex needs.
