As the Aussies finished up their national meet, the big performances came out. Nicola McDermott became the first Australian woman to clear the 2 meters mark in the high jump. Not only is McDermott the Australian champion, she now holds the national record and has a lot of confidence heading into the summer 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Adding 2 centimeters to her personal best, McDermott with the crowd clapping along with her cadence, floated to the pit in what seemed to be just nine strides. Her jump was powerful and glided over the bar to set the Aussie record and break the 2-meter barrier. At 24-years old this isn’t the last we will hear of her.
