There were tons of great performances at the Australian Olympic trials. As the Aussies finished up their national meet, the big performances came out. Nicola McDermott became the first Australian woman to clear the 2 meters mark in the high jump. Not only is McDermott the Australian champion, she now holds the national record and has a lot of confidence heading into the summer 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Adding 2 centimeters to her personal best, McDermott with the crowd clapping along with her cadence, floated to the pit in what seemed to be just nine strides. Her jump was powerful and glided over the bar to set the Aussie record and break the 2-meter barrier. At 24-years old this isn’t the last we will hear of her.
Stevens, Hall and Bisset among Australian athletics additions to Tokyo 2020 team Monday, 19 April 2021
The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has formally added 15 members to its athletics team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, including middle-distance stars Linden Hall and Catriona Bisset and discus world champion Dani Stevens.
Hall, who made the final of the women s 1500 metres at the Rio 2016 Olympics and Bisset, the new women s Australian national record holder at 800m and 2019 Universiade champion, are some of the most notable names to be confirmed.
World and two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Stevens is set to feature in her fourth Games and will aim to win her first Olympic medal, having made the discus final three times.
