Metro Police creates power shifts to address crime in South Nashville/Antioch area

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â Nashville Mayor John Cooper and Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake are holding a joint press conference to introduce the new Power Shifts initiative to address crime in the South Nashville/Antioch area.
Officers will work shifts 10-hour shifts with a sergeant leading a team of officers during the period when that area of town experiences its heaviest volume of calls and incidents. It hurts when you hear, hey we re stretched thin, it becomes an officer safety issue when you may not have back up or things are going on, said Chief John Drake.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â One person was injured in a shooting in South Nashville Wednesday evening.
Metro Nashville Police were called to the 4800 block of Shasta Drive for reports of a gunshot wound.
One person was critically injured and transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, according to Nashville Fire Department officials.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â Community members gathered in North Nashville Sunday afternoon to commemorate the anniversary of a resource in the fight against gun violence.
Earl Jordan founded the organization Partners In the Struggle 23 years ago after his daughter was born during, what he says, was a year with a large volume of homicides in Nashville.
The organization serves as a resource for families and friends of gun violence victims.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â Two people were killed and three were injured in separate shootings overnight in Nashville.
The first call came in around midnight Thursday along Alameda Street.
Police say 23-year-old Quiondre Charles Benson was visiting a female friend at her apartment when, according to the woman, an unknown man forced his way in, hit her in the face, shot Benson and ran away.
Benson died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Police identify man found stabbed to death in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â Metro Nashville Police detectives are investigating an apparent deadly stabbing in J.C. Napier Homes on Lewis Street.
Police say it happened early Thursday morning. A man was found lying on the ground at the 700 block of Lewis Street.
He was later identified as 39-year-old Andrie L. Glenn, of Nashville. Officials said the medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
Officials asked anyone with information about the case to call contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
