Aussie Day parties planned from north to south
Come together to reflect, respect and celebrate Australia Day this year at three destinations across Cairns.
From the north to the south, Council is inviting the community to enjoy a free snag, live entertainment and plenty of fun at the Beach Party at Holloways Beach in the north, the Pool Party at Tobruk Memorial Pool and south to the Party in the Park at Gordonvale.
Mayor Bob Manning said Australia Day 2021 was an opportunity for the Cairns community to reflect on the challenges of the past year, respect the sacrifices and contributions of those who responded in a time of need and celebrate being together and being Australian.
Doug Hawkins is Lismore's 2021 Australia Day Ambassador. For 20 years, Doug Hawkins has been a proud surf-lifesaving volunteer whose visionary approach.
Cultural and Arts Award
Council will also host a private Citizenship Ceremony on the day to welcome 19 new citizens into the Liverpool community.
About James Chapman
Elite rower James Chapman was part of the senior Australian Rowing Team for more than 15 years, representing Australia at 15 World Rowing Cups, seven World Rowing Championships and the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympic Games.
Born in New South Wales, Chapman started his career rowing out of Sydney Rowing Club, UTS Rowing Club and Mosman Rowing Club with the support of the New South Wales Institute of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport.
Chapman was first selected to compete for his country in the men’s VIII who took the silver medal at the under 23 World Championships in Copenhagen in 2000.
