Western Sydney doctors are fielding hundreds of phone calls from scared patients in the lead up to the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, set to begin on Monday.

An exposure site is a location a person who has tested positive to COVID-19 visited while they were potentially infectious . These locations are generally identified through contact tracing, where the person provides a detailed history of their contacts and places they visited up to three days before they developed symptoms (or tested positive, if they didn t have any symptoms).

NSW reported no new locally acquired cases on Sunday for the 14th consecutive day. One local case emerged in Western Australia, where Premier Mark McGowan announced a security guard at a quarantine hotel had tested positive. Mr McGowan ordered a lockdown for Perth and nearby regions until 6pm on Friday.
In NSW it is the longest period of zero detected community infections since December 16 when NSW Health reported the two new cases in a northern beaches couple. The Avalon cluster would ultimately grow to 151 cases.

It took 43 days since those first cases for NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant to say she was confident the Avalon cluster on the northern beaches had been brought under control on Wednesday.
“There are two observations that are of concern with s477n,” Turville said. “The first are studies where they grow virus to be resistant to antibodies. Two that emerge are s477n and e484k, with the latter observed in the South African variant. Secondly are studies that combine the elements of the s477n virus with e484k and the UK variant [n501y]. In that setting, the RBD of the virus increases its ability to bind to the receptor cells 600 times better than the original virus.”
That means it is much more infectious.
“For me, there are many variants of concern, such as those seen in South Africa, the UK and Brazil,” Turville said. “S477n was the ‘seed’ of one of them. But no one talks about this Melbourne variant anymore, because we got rid of it. But we might have dodged a bullet.”
