Local Eats: Rise Authentic Baking Co. in Grand Rapids offers classic treats with a vegan, gluten-free makeover Today 7:00 AM Facebook Share GRAND RAPIDS, MI Nick and Becca Van Liere never considered themselves bakers, but their Rise Authentic Baking Co. has grown from an apartment-based pastime into an entirely vegan and gluten-free bakery. When the couple were studying natural resources management and social work respectively at Grand Valley State University, Nick said he never considered even opening a bakery. But seven years later, the bakery is a staple in the city’s West Side community, located at 1220 Fulton Street. The duo ditches typical baking ingredients like eggs, butter and flour in favor of substitutes like vegan butter, and flour alternatives. Instead of lox on a bagel, it’s a carrot substitute on a homemade gluten-free bagel.

Local News Briefs: Parade route for Coshocton High School prom Staff Report COSHOCTON - The Coshocton High School s prom will be Saturday. Parade lineup starts at 7 p.m. at the high school and will leave at 7:30 p.m. for Stewart Field. The prom will be from 8 to 10 p.m. at the stadium. Events will be moved to the high school gymnasium and the parade canceled for inclement weather. The queen and king will be crowned at 9:30 p.m. The Class of 2020 is being invited back as their prom was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Parents and guests will not be permitted at Stewart Field or the high school, but are encouraged to line the parade route of Cambridge Road and Main Street. 

Sole Purpose group to hold annual pancake breakfast

Times-Reporter DOVER Members of the group Sole Purpose are hosting their annual pancake breakfast on March 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at the First Moravian Church of Dover.  This will be a carryout event.  Park in the parking lot and a member of the group will come to your car, take your order and return with your food. The church is located at the corner of N. Walnut Street and Fourth Street.  The organization of youth and parents raise funds to put “shoes on children’s feet” of children from kindergarten through the fifth grade in Tuscarawas County. Cost is $5 per person and free for those under age 3.
