Late Wednesday, Nordstrom (ticker: JWN) said that net sales fell 22% year over year for the nine-week holiday period ended Jan. 2, in line with the company’s and analysts’ expectations. What spooked investors was the company’s call for its margins on earnings before interest and taxes, or EBIT. Nordstrom said the number will fall by 5 percentage points, while the consensus view on Wall Street was for a decline of a little more than 3 percentage points.
