NORFOLK, Va. â The U.S. District Court for the Eastern Court of Virginia sentenced a former Virginia doctor to 59 years in prison after he was convicted of performing unnecessary surgeries at his OB-GYN medical practice.
Dr. Javaid Perwaiz, 71, was convicted of performing needless medical procedures, including hysterectomies and removing ovaries, without his patients knowing or consenting at his OB-GYN medical practice. He has been practicing in Hampton Roads since the 1980s.
He also allegedly filed false claims regarding those procedures to health care benefit programs.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - A Williamsburg man was arrested on multiple charges relating to the January 6 riots at the United States Capitol after turning himself in at the FBI s Norfolk Field Office.
Ryan Seth Suleski allegedly posted TikTok and YouTube videos discussing his involvement in the riots, where he claimed he was in the initial wave of people that forced our way into the Capitol building and said that he got hit with tear gas and rubber bullets.
Norfolk, VA A federal jury convicted two individuals today for their roles in a nationwide investment fraud scheme that resulted in over $25 million in losses to more than 300 victims, most of whom were elderly. As proven during a four-week trial, these defendants and their co-conspirators defrauded hundreds of unsuspecting investors out of over $25 million, draining their retirement accounts and leaving a trail of financial and emotional devastation for the victims, said Raj Parekh, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. The jury s verdicts bring us one step closer to securing justice for the victims of these damaging, manipulative, and life-altering schemes. Air Force veteran pleads guilty in scams to fleece other veterans

An Air Force veteran in Portsmouth, Va., has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with various schemes to scam veterans, according to Department of Justice officials. Rita Copeland, 59, operated an organization called “Veteran Services of the Commonwealth,” claiming to provide caregiving, contracting, and rental assistance services to veterans from 2016 through 2020, according to a court document filed with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. She also at times operated a contracting business.
