Police are appealing for information about the couple Police are appealing for information about a man and a woman that tried to steal a dog and assaulted its owner during a walk in a Swindon field. On Friday, April 30, at around 6pm the victim was walking with their dog through a field off Cricklade Road, known as The Vinnie, when it is alleged that she was approached by a man and woman who attempted to take the dog. In trying to do so, they assaulted the dog s owner by hitting her in the face, causing cuts, and punching her in the stomach.

A MAN and woman are alleged to have punched a dogwalker in the face and stomach while trying to take their victim s pet. The victim suffered cuts to her face after the attack, which happened while she walked through a field off Cricklade Road known as The Vinnie on Friday. The woman is described as white, of skinny build, approximately 5 foot 6 inches tall with long brown hair with blonde streaks. She had a purple piercing in the middle of her nose and spoke with a London accent. She was wearing dark blue jeans and a black summer jacket and was also carrying a large dark brown dog lead.

The force is currently looking into reports of attempted dog thefts. However, it stressed that no reports of dogs being physically stolen have been received so far this year. Concerns driven by social media Over the past few months, Wiltshire Police says there has been a rising perception and concern that more dog thefts and attempted dog thefts are taking place across the country.

A NEW police alert system will send pet owners information about dog thefts, suspicious activity in their neighbourhood and tips on how to keep themselves and their animals safe. Already, more than 2,000 people have signed up to Wiltshire Police’s new Dog Watch scheme, according to reports. Assistant Chief Constable Deb Smith told the BBC that the free alert system had been set up in response to public concern about dog theft. “You can see any local information about any thefts, attempted thefts of dogs,” she said of the scheme. “You can also get crime prevention advice, how to look after your dog safely when you’re out and about.
