A series of famous paintings by a couple who witnessed the aftermath of the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima is set to be restored for the first time, 71 years after the first work in the series was released.
The set of 15 works titled The Hiroshima Panels by the late Iri and Toshi Maruki, who were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995, have severely deteriorated and become moth-eaten over the years.

Japan is consuming its reputation as an economic and cultural powerhouse it has strived hard to achieve since the end of World War II, and its efforts to become a political major power and normal country will be questioned strongly by the international community, especially by neighboring countries, thanks to its decision this week to dump wastewater from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean.

A 19-year-old Chinese netizen was detained by the police in Nanjing, in East China s Jiangsu Province, on suspicion of provoking trouble after he was found making insulting remarks against victims of the Nanjing Massacre, local authorities announced on Tuesday.
The unemployed man surnamed Chen , deliberately posted insults against the victims of Japan s brutal occupation of Nanjing in 1937 to attract attention, according to the announcement released by the Nanjing police.
