A Ministry of Education memo dated February 26, 2021 from Nancy Naylor, Deputy Minister to Directors of Education and Treasurers of all Ontario school boards announced that $1.6 billion in cuts should be factored into their planning for next September. Essentially, the Ford government is warning Boards of Education that any pandemic funding is done. Will students be back in class on a full-time basis in September is a major question mark at this point. Yet, somehow, magically, the provincial governments message to Boards appears to be that all will be back to normal in September. The realization of less funding during an ongoing pandemic is discouraging for everyone that believes fully funded public education in Ontario is a worthwhile investment.
