Middle Tennessee mothers are speaking out against gun violence, murder

Finding healing in the wake of her son’s murder has not been easy for Rafia Muhammad-McCormick. As Muhammad-McCormick navigated the grieving process, she knew she needed to find purpose. I feel like God is calling me to do something with this sacrifice, to help me not to feel as isolated with the situation,  she said. And now, she has, thanks to a newly forming nonprofit and grief support group. Muhammad-McCormick unveiled her nonprofit Rodney’s Village at a Mothers Over Murder rally last Thursday at Murfreesboro’s Civic Plaza. Over 50 community members gathered at the rally, held in partnership with Nashville Peacemakers; seven parents of children killed by gun violence spoke.

Tag z 5 Star Meats moving to new spot in Murfreesboro

View Comments After 21 years in the same place, Tag z 5 Star Meats is hoofing it to a new location. Known for its quality meat and seafood selections, Tag z will open sometime in August at 1862 Memorial Blvd., formerly Performance Transmissions. Until then, daily operations for the Murfreesboro butcher shop will continue at the current location, 111 E. MTCS Road. We ve outgrown the place and it didn t have a whole lot of room for expansion, said Trent Malone, who purchased the business in 2018 with wife, Denise Malone, from founders Mike and Trisha Taglio. Tag z opened in 2000 in a 2,000-square-foot building tucked behind a bank in a strip center. Despite its out-of-the-way location, Tag z garnered a loyal following.
