Fundraising begins for mustang statue proposed at Medway High School

Country Gazette MEDWAY Proponents of a 9-foot-tall mustang statue to be displayed in the lobby at Medway High School have been given the go ahead by selectmen to move forward with fundraising for the project.  The metal statue, expected to stand on its hind hooves, was proposed to recognize former Medway High School science teacher, coach and athletic director William Phipps. The idea was first brought to the School Committee in February 2020.  The school s nickname and mascot is a mustang. After reviewing the district s naming and memorial plaque polices, School Committee Chair Susan Dietrich said a compromise was made between the project s presenters and the committee about what the plaque should read. The decision was, “Donated by Friends of William Phipps.”
