Lockhart, 59, had been director and event organizer for Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham and event manager at Trussville Civic Center. He founded the Jazz in the Park event series at Avondale Park in Birmingham in 2010. The series later spread to other Birmingham city parks and presented jazz concerts at parks in other cities in Alabama, including in Bessemer, Helena, Huntsville and Tuscaloosa.
