Nathan McFadden, of Burton, and eight of his newfound mountain-climbing friends like to be on top of things. So, the nine students of The Ohio State University, most studying to be engineers, in bitter cold, decided to challenge their strength with a hike up to the top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire.
The adventurous trip started out on Dec. 12 with a 12-hour drive to New Hampshire. After settling in the mountain state, they prepared for their climb and entered the climbing trail at the Lion Head Route, which created an elevation gain of 4,500 feet they had to climb to get to the top.
