Nathan Sobey’s standout NBL form for the Brisbane Bullets has prompted Boomers coach Brian Goorjian to add him to the squad for the Tokyo Olympics after originally being a controversial omission.
Sobey was shattered to miss out on the Boomers’ original 24-man squad for the Games this July and August.
But instead of complaining, he preferred to let his basketball do all the talking.
Sobey has certainly fulfilled his promise to star for Brisbane. He is ranked second in the league averaging 22 points per game and has achieved double figures in all 29 games. He has been equally as impressive in defence averaging more than four steals per game and 4.6 rebounds.
Sobey and Thiessen suffered injuries during the 2021 season opener at Century Downs on Tuesday (May 18).
Thiessen, driving Crush Me, who fell from the pocket after failing to avoid the breaking pacesetter, Lost Control, was impacted from behind by a trailing horse and suffered a fractured and dislocated femur and shattered collarbone. He confirmed via his Facebook page Wednesday afternoon (May 19) that his femur and collarbone were both surgically reconstructed: They put a nail through my femur and plated my collarbone . feel pretty good, actually, the 31-year-old reinsman wrote.
Thiessen also relayed a report from Crush Me s co-owner and trainer, Brent Bodor, that the filly is up and doing OK after the accident.
