Yellowstone River to reopen at Two Bridges Road bridge

BILLINGS - A stretch of the Yellowstone River east of Reed Point, which has been closed to boat traffic since January, will reopen Wednesday in time for the long Memorial Day weekend. While the waterway will reopen, it will be some time before floaters will be able to access the riverbank at the old bridge site to launch or retrieve boats, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks wrote in a release. The closest fishing access sites are Indian Fort at Reed Point and Holmgren Ranch west of Columbus. Montana FWP closed the river upstream and downstream from the Two Bridges Road bridge in January after the Montana Department of Transportation determined that it was in imminent jeopardy of failure.

Colstrip operator eyeing wind farm in southeast Montana

TOM LUTEY Colstrip Power Plant operator and co-owner Talen Energy is eyeing a wind farm on the southeast Montana plains just outside the community where the coal-fired generator is located. Documents obtained by The Billings Gazette show a targeted project area of roughly 14 square miles in Rosebud and Treasure counties where Talen Energy, in a joint venture with Pattern Energy, is pursuing lease agreements for a wind farm of unspecified capacity. Both companies have energy interests in Montana currently. Talen has a 30% share of Colstrip Unit 3, a power plant facing increasing pressure to close by late 2025. Pattern owns the 80-megawatt Stillwater Wind Farm near Reed Point, which sells electricity to NorthWestern Energy.

"Prom Night in Montana," And They Know How To Shoot

Usually it s the dads with the guns before prom night, but this is Montana- the ladies have it covered. Apparently every year several of the smaller schools around Billings will come together for a group prom- with Custer, Melstone, Ryegate, Rapelje, Reed Point, Lavina, and Broadview all participating. This year, they got together for prom at the Moose Club in Billings, according to Anna Tooke (her daughter Alyson is in the blue dress on the left in the above photo). Anna shared the above photo on Facebook, adding: Prom night in Montana! Anna tells us that all of the girls are sophomores at Broadview High School, just north of Billings. They play volleyball, basketball and are in track.they’ve all grown up together since kindergarten, added Anna. They all come from strong Montana roots and have even had their own group chat titled Trump Supporters. Everyone of them knows how to shoot. When a storm hit the Billings area last night and outdoor pics were no longer an option,

Avista eyes Montana wind energy

TOM LUTEY Colstrip Power Plant owner Avista Corp. is eyeing 300 megawatts of Montana wind power over the next seven years as it determines where its future energy will come from. The Spokane-utility included Montana wind energy in its preferred strategy for resources, with 100 megawatts of the capacity coming online in 2023, plus an additional 100 in 2024, and another 100 megawatts of capacity in 2028. Details were disclosed April 2 in the utility’s 2021 Integrated Resource Plan, which gives regulators in Idaho and Washington a look at Avista scenarios for providing electricity to customers through 2025 and beyond. Avista has a 222-megawatt share of the Colstrip Power Plant, evenly divided between Units 3 and 4. It faces a 2025 deadline to stop delivering coal power to its Washington customers under the terms of the state’s Clean Energy Transformation Act. The climate law requires utilities to stop delivering coal power to Washington Customers by the end of
