Natick farm conjures up a different version of Maple Magic
It takes 40 gallons to make one gallon of maple syrup.
NATICK – The snow may be on the ground for weeks to come, but you could hear the first sounds of spring at the Natick Community Organic Farm on Eliot Street on Feb. 12.
Not the crack of the bat, but the whir of an auger drilling a hole (or two) into sugar maple trees.
On a sunny Friday morning, farm Executive Director Casey Townsend and a volunteer, Antonio Nissi, kicked off the maple sugaring season by tapping the farm’s own sugar maple trees. Over the next week or so, the farm will tap between 500 and 800 trees in several towns, said Townsend.

Sullivan s Travels: Happy anniversary, Sassamon Trace
Wicked Local
I recently came across a Facebook post from the town of Natick regarding Sassamon Trace golf course off Route 27, and was nearly taken aback when I saw the date it opened – 2001.
Has it been 20 years already?
This piece of Dowse Orchards, combined with a piece of the old Natick landfill (OK, OK – dump), has become a really nice 9-hole course enjoyed by hundreds of golfers over the years. In addition to leagues, the course is home to the Natick High and Dover-Sherborn High golf teams.

NATICK, MA When it s frigid at night and (relatively) warm durin the day, it s maple sugar season.
The Natick Community Organic Farm (NCOF) will soon begin tours of its maple-sugaring operation, allowing locals to taste maple sap that runs best around this time of year. Visitors will observe live campfires with boiling sap that demonstrate how Native Americans and Colonists likely made maple sugar. We ll learn about tree identification, climate change impacts, qualities of sap and syrup and more in our outdoor, mini maple museum and at a tapped tree, according NCOF.
