Canavan: Govt ‘jumping off a roof thinking it s superman’ with net zero push 20/04/2021|7min
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says setting a “mythical” net zero emissions target will only impose “massive amounts of red tape” on regional Australia.
Last night Prime Minister Scott Morrison delivered a presentation at the Business Council of Australia where he mapped out a path to meet the net zero emissions by 2050 target.
“Effectively this is like the 10-year-old kid trying to jump of his parents roof thinking he’s superman. He doesn’t have the technology to fly and he’s going to fall flat on his face,” he told Sky News.
National Party wants to grow and protect jobs in coal 15/04/2021|7min
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says within the National Party there isn’t a policy to “transition jobs” but rather a “growth policy” to grow and protect the jobs in coal.
“We don’t have a transition policy for the Hunter and Newcastle region, we’ve got a growth policy,” Mr Canavan told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“We want to grow more jobs”.
“We’ve got to protect the jobs we’ve got in coal but also have new jobs in manufacturing in energy.
“And take the opportunities we’ve got here in this region to leverage off what is a great mining sector, what is a great eco-system of mining services, businesses in places like Muswellbrook.

Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says he is “dead set against Australia signing up to a net zero emissions target because net zero is the biggest scam since you last received an email from Nigeria”.

‘My views were reaffirmed’: Canavan the first to call for AstraZeneca pause 13/04/2021|2min
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan spoke with Sky News about his decision to call for a pause to the rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine alongside other European nations who banned the drug over blood clot concerns.
“I don’t pretend to have any special knowledge in this area. All I felt was that was a cautious approach given other respected health authorities were taking drastic action,” he said.
“I was concerned a few weeks ago that we were putting the public relations task ahead of the health information task.”
Australia Post Chairman ‘needs to go’: Canavan13/04/2021|6min
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says Australia Post Chairman Lucio Di Bartolomeo “does need to go” in the interests of Australia Post.
During a Senate inquiry into the Cartier watches saga, former Australia Post CEO Christine Holgate slammed the chairman, calling for him to be removed from the board.
Ms Holgate claimed he has continued to “lie and mislead” Australia’s people.
Mr Canavan said Lucio Di Bartolomeo has “presided over this debacle” and he thinks the best things for Australia Post would be “for him to go”.
“And they turn over a new leaf, because they do face many challenges,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
