CV reports most number of cases of violence vs women, children

SunStar SunStar File May 21, 2021 CENTRAL Visayas had the highest reported cases of violence against women and children (VAWC) in the country in 2019 at 3,186, according to data from the Commission on Population and Development (Popcom) 7 based on the 2019 Annual Report on Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RPRH) Act of 2012. Reported VAWC cases in the region’s cities and provinces also significantly increased from 2018, when there were only 1,633 cases. The National Capital Region ranked second highest with a total of 1,554 reported VAWC cases in 2019, which is lower than the 1,731 reported cases in the region in 2018. Date Time Support to countries’ equitable and resilient recovery from pandemic towards health SDGs Geneva, 20 May 2021 – WHO and 12 other signatory agencies to the Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-being for All (SDG3 GAP) have released their second progress report, Stronger collaboration for an equitable and resilient recovery towards the health-related SDGs. This report presents progress achieved, especially at country level, where SDG3 GAP is being implemented in 37 countries, with its long-term, forward-looking SDG focus and as a platform to support countries’ equitable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The report also identifies challenges encountered over the last year, acknowledging the important roles that countries, agencies’ boards and donors play in setting the right incentives for effective collaboration among SDG3 GAP agencies.

Committee on Rights of Child Opens Online Eighty-Seventh Session, Elects New Chairperson and Bureau

OHCHR The Committee on the Rights of the Child today opened its online eighty-seventh session, electing a new Chairperson and Bureau, and adopting its agenda and programme of work for the session, during which it will review the reports of Luxembourg and Tunisia. The Committee elected its new Chair and Bureau. Mikiko Otani (Japan) was elected as Chair of the Committee. The Vice-Chairs are Velina Todorova (Bulgaria), Philip Jaffe (Switzerland), Hynd Ayoubi Idrissi (Morocco) and Faith Marshall-Harris Barbados). In his address to the Committee, Mahaman Cissé-Gouro, Director of the Human Rights Council and Treaty Mechanism Division at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and Representative of the Secretary-General, said this new global wave of COVID-19 was having severe consequences for a greater number of children, with access to essential health, social protection and education services being continuously constrained.
