A 95-year-old man who lived in Tennessee was deported to Germany on Saturday, one year after a federal judge found that he had served as an armed guard at a Nazi concentration camp where prisoners were forced to work outdoors “to the point of exhaustion and death.”
The 95-year-old man reportedly confessed to serving as a concentration camp guard in 1945. He was handed over to German investigators upon landing at Frankfurt Airport.
95-year-old Friedrich Karl Berger guarded prisoners at a Neuengamme sub-camp near Meppen, Germany during the Holocaust, and continues to receive German pension for his "wartime service."
