(Enterprise photo â Amy Scattergood) SARANAC LAKE At Thursday’s public hearing on the local police review committee’s findings and policy proposals, around 30 Zoom participants learned about a proposed mental health and addiction specialist program. Some also voiced concerns over chokehold policies and how officers will be trained. On Feb. 10 the committee released its draft report a cumulative document of the weekly meetings and listening group discussions it has held since August 2020. The committee was organized then, as communities around the state began reviewing police policies under the guidance of an executive order. The report can be found on the village website.

(Photo provided) SARANAC LAKE State University of New York Chancellor Jim Malatras visited North Country Community College’s Saranac Lake campus Monday, Feb. 8 as the college began testing of students, faculty and staff some of whom started on-campus classes this Tuesday. North Country began the spring semester Feb. 1 with the first two weeks of classes entirely remote. Most instruction will remain remote, but starting Tuesday, a limited number of North Country students primarily those in the practical nursing, radiologic technology and massage therapy programs are able to attend in-person classes.

Feb 6, 2021 SARANAC LAKE North Country Live returns Feb. 11 with a new slate of programs focused on outdoor recreation, environmental issues, local history and other topics. Hosted on Zoom by North Country Community College and its partners, North Country Live has provided more than 15 free webinars, presentations and panel discussions since it was launched at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020. The upcoming edition of North Country Live, sponsored by International Paper, will feature the following sessions, each of which takes place at 7 p.m. on Zoom. All these programs are free and open to the public.

The award, established by Dr. Richard and Leslie Handler in memory of their daughter Meghan, is given annually to a registered nurse employed by Adirondack Health with one to three years of professional experience, a commitment to improving and expanding one’s knowledge base, excellent technical skills and efficiency, and demonstrated compassion and rapport with patients’ families, significant others and colleagues.
