Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development Premila Kumar says Municipal Council infrastructure projects have a vital role to play in Fiji’s economic recovery.
Her comments came at the Nadi Chamber of Commerce New Year Social event in Nadi last night.
According to the Fijian Government, Minister Kumar stressed that the pandemic presents many challenges for the Municipalities – challenges very similar to what other businesses are experiencing.

Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar says they have noticed that civil servants including teachers, nurses and Police officers are amongst those people who owe town and city rates.
While speaking at the Nadi Chamber of Commerce Christmas and New Year’s Social, Kumar says these people are still employed and they are receiving full pay.
She says this was revealed through rate-profiling which is a good way to collect data.

The Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunset collected $800 cash and 35 bags of relief items during their disaster relief initiative collection at the ROC Market in Suva, and donations continue to pour in.
Community Service Director Prashant Anuraag says the support from the people of Fiji towards the initiative has been tremendous and they are thankful that people have shown their support to those who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
