Keeping cats at home for safety and conservation
Residents will be required to keep cats on their premises at all times under a new curfew coming into effect on 1 October 2021.
Knox City Council Mayor, Cr Lisa Cooper said the 24-hour cat curfew is designed to protect cats and local wildlife.
“Much like the rules for dogs and other pets, cats won’t be allowed to roam freely from their owners’ property. When allowed to roam cats are at a much higher risk of illness and injury. Keeping cats within their owners’ property also protects wildlife and prevents them causing nuisance for neighbours and their pets,” she said.

Opposition health spokeswoman Georgie Crozier has requested a copy of a ‘secret’ letter that purportedly exonerated I Cook Foods on the day of its enforced closure by health authorities.
Ms Crozier told State Parliament that she lodged freedom-of-information requests for “critical correspondence’ sent by Knox City Council to the state’s health department on 22 February 2019.
It was allegedly sent the same day that the Dandenong South-based ICF was closed by the department as part of an investigation into a patient’s death from an alleged listeria infection at Knox Private Hospital.
By the time it re-opened six weeks later, the business was destroyed. Forty-one employees lost their jobs.

The annual Knox Festival will not proceed in 2021, due to continued restrictions and challenges facing large public events as a result of COVID-19.
Knox City Council determined that for the safety and wellbeing of the community, holding a free-roaming event like Knox Festival, where social distancing and COVID safe practices cannot be ensured, would not be responsible at this time.
Knox City Council Mayor, Cr Lisa Cooper said a series of smaller pop up events will instead replace the popular event to provide opportunities for the community to still come together safely.
“I like many in the community am disappointed there will be no Knox Festival this year,” said Cr Cooper.
