Business leaders, medical pros show interest in new county advisory group, response by specialists not as strong

The Board of Health has imposed mask mandates and business hour curfews that some commissioners have resisted. According to the county, no virologist had applied to take that specific slot on the citizens committee by the Dec. 21 application deadline. As envisioned the group is to include an epidemiologist and two economists. Two epidemiologists appeared to qualify. As of last week, one had submitted a resume and certifications but no letter of recommendation. The other had not yet submitted any supplemental documentation. The holiday season may slow down applicants from submitting all the required paperwork. Three people have applied and are qualified for the economist positions. Two had submitted resumes and only one had submitted the full application with letters of recommendation, according to the county.

Knox County Board of Health citizen member Ani Roma catches COVID-19

Roma believes she caught the virus through her high-contact job as a middle school health teacher.  For months, I worked 60+ hours a week, taught through a KN95 mask, only left the house for work/school and the grocery store, she wrote in a Facebook post.  I haven t seen my parents in a year. All so I could catch COVID on the last day school was in session and give it to (my family).   Roma has been feeling an overwhelming sense of guilt for not taking her symptoms more seriously, something she is now urging everyone to do.  Knox County announced nine new COVID-19 deaths Christmas Eve, bringing the county s total to 287. The county also reported 152 residents currently hospitalized, its highest number yet.
