Taliban Captures Key Afghan Dam, Army Bases As Fighting Rages May 06, 2021 Share share Print Taliban fighters have captured Afghanistan s second-biggest dam and two Afghan Army bases, militants and officials said, as fighting escalates amid the ongoing pullout of U.S. and international forces from the war-wracked country. Dahla Dam, also known as Arghandab Dam, is located in the Shah Wali Kot district of the southern province of Kandahar, some 40 kilometers north of the provincial capital, Kandahar City. The dam, which provides irrigation to farmers via a network of canals as well as drinking water for Kandahar City, is now under Taliban control after months of fierce fighting in the militants former stronghold of Kandahar.

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) targeted Taliban positions in Shahr-e-Kohna area of Nahrin district and Cheshma-e-Shir area along Baghlan-Samangan provincial highway last night, killing five Taliban militants and wounding nine others, the ministry said in a statement. Those among the killed militants were Qari Majid, Taliban s shadow district chief for Nahrin and Qari Eahsanullah, a militants divisional commander, the statement said.

10 Security Force Members Killed in Farah, Baghlan Attacks At least ten security force members were killed and another was wounded in Taliban attacks in Farah and Baghlan provinces on Sunday night, local officials said.  The Taliban attacked a security outpost in Bala Bolok district of Farah province on Sunday night during which six security force members were killed and after which another is missing, said Taj Mohammad Jahid, provincial governor, on Monday.  “The Taliban blew up the security outpost about 9pm last night,” Jahid said. “Five soldiers escaped and moved to another outpost.”  He also said that the Taliban attacked another security outpost in Farah city, capital of the province, but the security forces pushed back the attack and 10 Taliban were killed and wounded.
