This means nearly six million Brits were infected with Covid in the first nine months of the pandemic.
The results from the study come after it was today revealed that just one dose of the Oxford/AstraZenenca jab could slash transmission rates and stop people spreading the virus.

The number of people with coronavirus antibodies jumped nearly 30 per cent in a month, the latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows, suggesting the vaccination programme may be starting to have an impact.
Around one in seven people aged over 16 in England would have tested positive for Covid antibodies by mid-January, figures show, equating to 6.9 million previous infections.
