Lucy Shires hopes Facebook invests in mental health support

Online social media platforms can prove problematic if used in the wrong way - Credit: Sonya Duncan A district councillor has called for social media giants such as Facebook to contribute towards mental health services for young people as online bullying soars. Miss Shires attended a UK Youth Parliament meeting last week where the potential for social media to become toxic was discussed. She said that she would like to see social media companies show more social conscience to support young people. Freedom of speech is one thing, but it is a murky area where Facebook can t be policed.

Unpaid carers now eligible to book Covid-19 vaccine

Unpaid carers are being vaccinated UNPAID carers across the Dudley borough could be eligible for the coronavirus vaccine as part of the ongoing vaccination programme. Under priority group six which is currently rolling out, unpaid carers of family members and friends who receive carers allowance are eligible for the vaccine. It also applies to those who are the sole or primary carer for someone elderly or with a disability who are at an increased risk and considered clinically vulnerable. Carers should receive a letter inviting them for the vaccine and they can book their appointment via the national website or by calling 119.
