If 22 April is a date to reflect on all we need to do for the survival of all, let’s celebrate this date every day. Obviously, we can’t shop our way out of many of the planet’s most challenging environmental situations but, by being more conscious consumers, we can choose products that in some way consider the threats facing us, or actively aim for positive impact. Here are some thoughts on what to get for the home, what to gift and what to take away – and how to measure our footprint and that of the brands we support – to make our lives a little greener.

With nearly ten years behind her as a sustainability-focused jewellery designer, Sandy Leong chose to collaborate with gemstone supplier Gemfields on an offering of pieces that are made with “responsibly sourced emeralds, 18 karat recycled gold and conflict-free diamonds,” as noted in a press release. Running the gamut in featuring everything from petite diamond pavé earrings to extravagant cuffs, 10 percent of sales of the Sol collection will go towards benefitting children and education-focused initiatives via the Gemfields Foundation. Fibretrace launches FIM raw fibre benchmarking tool

Leading traceability technology business Fibretrace has today released its
Fibre Impact Module (FIM), an integrated benchmarking tool that collects and aggregates previously uncaptured impact data from farms including carbon emissions, water use, energy consumption and other environmental performance data as shared by farmers and their agronomists and third-party verified.
Fibretrace was established in 2018 and says it provides brands with a solution for the highly coveted transparent textile supply chain by delivering the leading marker technology for traceability. The FIM is the next evolution for Fibretrace, combining traceability with impact measurement, the company says. The FIM uses the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol accounting standard as its backbone.
