She reiterated that almost 50 volunteers were on board, all of whom had “undergone training in support skills”.
“From the 1 June, Nurse Lifeline becomes the first national, free, confidential, peer-led listening service run by nurses and midwives, for nurses and midwives, and we hope that it will empower our colleagues nationally to know that this is by them, for them,” added Ms Greening, who is a registered nurse and postgraduate midwifery student.
“We recognise the value in having space to offload with someone who gets it and the positive effect this has on wellbeing.”
Although volunteers cannot provide advice, counselling or discuss professional issues, Ms Greening stressed “we know that sometimes just talking about your day with someone who understands can be a game changer”.

In honor of Nursing Now 2020, a global effort to promote and support the nursing profession, the Duchess of Cambridge interviewed midwife Harriet Nayiga for
Nursing Times.
