The Calcutta High Court, on Thursday, dismissed the contempt petitions filed against Harsh Vardhan Lodha for continuing as director of MP Birla Group companies.
According to Debanjan Mandal, partner, Fox & Mandal and the advocate for Lodhas, the verdict would clear the decks for Lodha to continue as the chairman of all companies of the MP Birla Group including Birla Corporation, Universal Cables, Vindhya Telelinks and Birla Cable.

The students of West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata have again secured record placements across all National Law Universities (NLUs) in the country for the graduating Batch of 2020. A total of 119 job offers were made to the Batch with many students receiving multiple job offers. A total of 78 students accepted job offers excluding the students who had standing job offers but decided to opt for alternative career options.
The average annual packages offered by foreign law firms ranged from INR 42-46 lakhs and by top domestic law firms ranged from INR 15-18 lakhs. Students joining companies in the role of in-house counsels received packages ranging from INR 12-14 lakhs. Keeping in line with the diversity exhibited by previous batches, students in the Batch of 2020 have also opted for a range of diverse career paths. NUJS Kolkata Campus Recruitment Committee (CRC) 2020 has released its final placement statistics for the 2019-20 academic year, with more than 60 accepted job offers from the highest paying law firms, according to a release by its Student Juridical Association (SJA).
In total there were 119 opportunities accounted for, including 75 law firm jobs, 2 in-house positions and 17 opting for litigation chambers.
Civil services and judicial services exam preparation remained popular, with 8 and 9 respectively going for each of those.
Four would do policy and research work, while two would join startups, according to the CRC.
