GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â A Grand Rapids man is worried about the state garnishing his wages after the Unemployment Insurance Agency says it overpaid him.
The only problem is he never filed for benefits.
Itâs really confusing to him because he was working during the entire pandemic, and even when he wasnât fully on the job, his employer still paid him.
âThe total they say I owe is $10,300,â said Tim Walters.

WOLF LAKE, Mich. â Hundreds of thousands of people are still waiting for their unemployment checks. They either havenât been paid at all, or theyâre unable to file.
Michiganâs Unemployment Insurance Agency updated claimants Monday saying some have started getting their $300 weekly federal boost while those on PUA cannot even file.
Some people are even getting denied when they couldnât find work due to the virus.
âI never got through to them. Never. Iâve tried to call them, and they say, Call back later, â said Sharon Tucker of Wolf Lake.

BYRON CENTER, Mich. â A Byron Center woman is still unable to file for unemployment months after she lost her job, because someone else used her social security number to get benefits.
Sheâs now back to work but reached out to problem solvers after getting nowhere with the UIA.
âSo, every time I would get a call from somebody Iâd have to start over from the beginning to explain that youâre not gonna find my name and date of birth in your system,â said Kelli Kotman.
