Kids are making up larger proportion of Covid-19 cases now, CDC says
From CNN s Maggie Fox
Children and teens are starting to make up a larger proportion of coronavirus cases now than earlier in the epidemic, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.
The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is holding a public meeting to discuss whether to recommend Pfizer/BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine for use in youth as young as 12. The US Food and Drug Administration extended its emergency use authorization for the vaccine in 12-15-year-olds Monday.
The CDC’s Dr. Sara Oliver said children and teens are starting to account for a larger share of new coronavirus infections. “In April, 9% of cases were aged 12-17 years, which actually represents a larger proportion of cases than adults 65 and older,” she told the ACIP meeting.

Buffalo, N.Y. New York state beaches and pools will open in time for Memorial Day, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said today.
Initially, 6-foot social distancing rules will apply and limit capacity. But the goal is 100% capacity by July 4.
“If the numbers keep going the way they’re going, we’re going to be able to do that,” Cuomo said during a press conference in Buffalo. “We would actually be able to have a normal summer, finally, in beaches and pools and that’s what we’re striving for.”
A relatively small group of commentators turned out virtually Monday to talk about Mayor Byron Brown s budget proposal, now before Buffalo s Common Council.
The Council has until May 22 to make decisions on the budget proposal and there are usually some changes. Among the changes suggested by speakers was cutting the Police Department s spending plan.
The department s budget actually drops, a little, in Brown s proposal. Activists have been pushing to slice millions out of the budget and put it into other community purposes.
Speaking for Standing Up for Racial Justice and Black Love Resists in the Rust, Josie Diebold called for police spending cuts.
The 19-year-old’s body has yet to be found by authorities.

Saniyya Dennis, the Buffalo State student who disappeared last month, may have committed suicide officials said Thursday (May 6), according to CBS News.
“At this time, we believe that Saniyya traveled alone from the Buffalo State College campus by NFTA bus to Niagara Falls State Park where the evidence suggests that she took her own life during the early morning hours of Sunday, April 25, 2021,” Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said in a statement
“All evidence indicates that Saniyya ended her own life, but the investigation into her disappearance will not be closed until she is found,” Flynn said.
