Hope Powell has made history by becoming the first-ever female winner of the League Managers’ Association Performance of the Week for Brighton’s 2-1 win at Chelsea.
The League Managers Association’s panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett, Barry Fry Paul Ince and Rachel Yankey, selected Hope after Albion ended Chelsea’s 33-game unbeaten record in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, which stretched back two years, thanks to goals from Aileen Whelan and Megan Connolly.

Chelsea lost their record 33-match unbeaten WSL run with a shock home defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion.
An early exchange of goals saw Erin Cuthbert set up Sam Kerr to find the top corner, only for Aileen Whelan to level on 8 minutes with a header from a Megan Connolly flag kick.
Moments after an effort from Kerr came back off the post into Megan Walsh’s gloves, Connolly gave Albion a shock lead with Carly Telford failing to deal with a corner inside the last dozen minutes.

Brighton & Hove Albion Women sign Finnish international defender
Brighton & Hove Albion Women have signed Finland international Emma Koivisto on an 18-month contract from Gothenburg FC.
The 26-year-old defender has 58 senior caps and was part of the squad which has qualified for the 2022 European Championships.
Koivisto won the Swedish top-flight with Gothenburg last year, as well as the Finnish championship in 2017 with FC Honka.
Head coach Hope Powell said: “We’re delighted to welcome Emma to Brighton. She has lots of experience of top-level football in Europe and America and we think she will add a lot to the squad.

When some faithful Muletown Rec-goers heard the facility was struggling with the costs of maintaining the pools last year, they took action to save their favorite sport.
A determined group of athletes, high school swimming coaches, concerned year-round swimmers and health professionals successfully prevented the end of aquatics at the facility by raising more than $350,000 required to make the necessary pool repairs.
The facility’s owners said the ongoing cost of maintenance and repairs of the center’s indoor Olympic-sized lap pool and therapy pool resulted in the business’ largest operating costs, while showing the least overall member utilization.
