When it comes to the child to teenage transition, one mental health expert is finding similarities in the temperaments of specific pets. Children are like dogs and teens are like cats. Children are quick to engage and play with. They want to talk to us and cooperate with us. We can have fun with them. They show that they like us. On the other hand, teens might seem aloof, keeping their distance from us, emotionally and physically, says Terry Warburton, the Clinical Director at Recovery of Hope Counselling in Winnipeg.
The idea comes from an article that author Adair Lara wrote in the San Fransisco Chronicle.

Rutherford will succeed Zoe Callaway, who worked on more than a dozen advocacy campaigns for two years, including raising public awareness about a possible soda tax and income tax hike.
Callaway has accepted a position at the Tax Foundation in Washington, DC as Manager of Education.
“While I am saddened to see Zoe leave after such an incredible performance launching ABD to become a formidable presence in Delaware, I am very happy to see her land a much larger role in such a prestigious national organization in DC.”

Myth #1 - a child can be spoiled with love, or parents can give them too much love. If what we do for and with our children has to do with meeting their needs, then we cannot give too much of that. Unconditional love and strong emotional connections are definitely needs, says Warburton.
Myth #2 - a child can be too attached. I have often heard this one especially when someone is talking about a child who appears to be clingy and whiny, seeming to find it difficult to let their parent go - whether it’s at school, daycare or a friend’s house. It is impossible to be too attached. Can a tree be too attached to its roots? The stronger the attachment the more resilient the tree is!
