I read the article in the Great Bend Tribune: “Kansas weekly gas prices rise more than 5 cents” (March 10 issue, posted online March 9). As a car driver, I hate to see any increase in the price of gasoline. While I realize that price increases in gasoline, may help oilmen, I still think it is detrimental. When gasoline prices were low, more people could afford to ‘top-off’ their car’s fuel tank. Although I realize the new presidential administration is pushing so-called “green-energy” (and to a degree I support ‘green’ as a portion of our overall national portfolio of conventional oil, clean coal, nuclear - with added safeguards) as well as wind and solar. STAFFORD COUNTY – Audubon of Kansas on Friday, Jan. 15, filed suit in U.S. District Court in Kansas City to restore the 60-plus-year-old water rights belonging to the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, claiming irrigation along the Rattlesnake Creek has hampered water flow into the refuge. This is the latest action in a dispute that dates back nearly a decade.

The Great Bend City Council Monday night appointed Jason Cauley as director of Public Works. The action followed a 20-minute executive session.
Cauley has served the past 12 months as assistant public works director, City Administrator Kendal Francis said. “During that time, he has immersed himself in the department, overseeing its day-to-day operations, with little supervision needed.”
