For anyone who’s vacationed with a bestie, “People We Meet on Vacation” by Emily Henry (Berkley Jove) is a good pick to pack. It’s the story of Alex and Poppy, who’ve known one another since forever, but they had a really bad vacation together two years ago. You might think that’s the end of this story, but no. Poppy misses Alex and she extends the laurel branch. He accepts. That’s a big wow; now she has a week to make things right .

I am a lover of essays.
Every morning, shortly after dawn, I sit at my laptop, coffee at hand, and explore the internet looking for pieces to read for enjoyment or as a kickoff for an article of my own.
On my bookshelves are scores of novels, once also a favorite genre, but over the years I have amassed equal numbers of volumes of essays, collections by such diverse writers as Joseph Epstein, Richard Mitchell, Alice Thomas Ellis, Hilaire Belloc, and Florence King. Here too are anthologies like Phillip Lopate’s “The Art of the Personal Essay” and Epstein’s “The Norton Book of Personal Essays.”
A LITTLE schoolgirl with a big heart braved the big chop last week - cutting off nine inches of her hair to help other children. On Monday, May 3, Poppy Taylor from Charter Alley, Tadley, donated lots of her lockdown locks to The Little Princess Trust - a charity which makes wigs for children and young people suffering hair loss as a result of illness. Poppy s mum, Emily, told the Gazette: Poppy has known about The Little Princess Trust for a while now. Since Covid hit, over a year ago, her usually neat hair became a crazy mane and she decided to keep growing it, knowing that she wanted to donate it eventually.

Passed away at Cirencester Hospital on the 15th April 2021, aged 90 years. Much loved Husband of the late Jean, Father to Jacky and Lee, Grandfather to Adam and Great Grandfather to Vinnie and Jaxson. A sportsman all his life - boxing in the Navy, playing Rugby for Hoffmans, Painswick and Cainscross before taking up running with Stroud District A.C. A true inspiration who will be sorely missed by all of his friends and family. Private family service to be held at Gloucester Crematorium, Wednesday 5th May 2021 at 12.30pm. Family flowers only.
