Work to create the new Horizon 120 business and innovation park at Great Notley will have some impact on traffic from January onwards.
Construction work will be carried out on and near the Cuckoo Way roundabout. Balfour Beatty will close the northbound inside lane of the A131 at the Cuckoo Way roundabout for four weeks, starting from Monday, January 4. The outside lane will remain open to traffic and drivers will still be able to turn right into the Tesco superstore.
The section of road on Cuckoo Way, opposite Tesco, will also be closed to traffic from Monday, January 18 for six weeks. The footpaths will remain open and diversion signs will be in place.
THE areas with the best and worst internet speeds in the Braintree district have been revealed. Across the area, broadband speeds range from a superfast 75.2 megabits (Mbps) per second to a snail-paced 2 Mbps, according to data from Uswitch.com. It means some families using Zoom, Skype or Facebook to speak to relatives and friends are faced with annoying freezes, cut-outs and sound delays. Meanwhile, those downloading films could be left waiting up to 120 hours, compared to just one minute 20 seconds in neighbourhoods with the fastest speeds. The average broadband speeds were collected in postcode areas with more than 50 addresses through at least one test in the 12 months up to October this year. In total, nearly 400,000 tests were done.
The number of public charge points per electric vehicle in the UK has fallen to its lowest ever level, in a sign that infrastructure is failing to keep pace with increasing demand.
Analysis by energy consultants shows that there are just 0.28 public charges per electric vehicle (EV) in the UK – approximately one charger for every four vehicles. At the start of 2018, the ratio was around nine chargers per EV.
The research by Cornwall Insight suggests that much still needs to be done to improve the infrastructure around EVs before the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles comes into effect in 2030.
“However, charging has to be simple and free of anxiety, which is why we’ve designed our Electric Forecourts entirely around the needs of drivers, updating the traditional petrol station model for a net-zero carbon world and delivering the confidence people need to make the switch to electric transport today.
“Together with our charging-included electric vehicle leasing business, that we are also launching in partnership with Hitachi Capital (UK) PLC, people now have the full confidence to make the transition to an electric vehicle.”

Study found that for every EV currently registered there are 0.20 chargers
In contrast, there were 0.3 public charge points per EV at the start of 2018
Experts have warned it will be difficult to galvanise drivers to switch to zero-emission cars with a lagging infrastructure
Separate study found there s a huge north-south divide in charger availability
