Great South Coast alliance meets in Portland
Elected local government officials and key industry representatives from across the Great South Coast converged on Portland today (February 26) for a forum to discuss priorities for the region.
Glenelg Shire Council hosted the meeting, the first of the year for the Great South Coast alliance of Councils.
Chair of the Great South Coast Group Anita Rank said the meeting allowed delegates to develop a greater understanding of Portland’s role in the Great South Coast.
“It’s been fantastic to host our local leaders in Portland today to discuss what lies ahead for the region and what issues and opportunities the Great South Coast Group will be prioritising and pursuing through 2021 and beyond,” Cr Rank said.
CR RANK ELECTED CHAIR OF GREAT SOUTH COAST
Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank has been elected chair of the Great South Coast (GSC) group of councils.
Cr Rank replaces former Warrnambool City Council Mayor Tony Herbert as Chair of the joint advocacy group, after Mr Herbert stepped down from local politics in the 2020 Local Government Elections.
Cr Rank said she would continue the important work of the Group, implementing projects, identifying successful partnerships and advocating for the region’s key priorities.
“The Great South Coast region is incredibly well positioned in terms of affordability and liveability, however we still require substantial investment and infrastructure upgrades to maximise our true potential,” she said.
