Ennis City Manager Calls COVID-19 Situation Dire
Tonight in a Facebook post the Ennis City Manager said the following, “
The situation with the COVID-19 Pandemic and the threat it poses to our families, friends and neighbors is worse now than ever. Our healthcare providers, our doctors, nurses and medical facilities are worn-out and overwhelmed.
As I write this, regular hospital beds are almost full and there is only one Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Bed available in Ellis County. What that means is, people with severe illnesses or injuries must be transferred to a facility with bed capacity but when all facilities are full to overflowing, they may not get the urgent care they need to save their life.
Santa Barbara County hits new daily COVID-19 high, experts call for caution during holiday season
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Santa Barbara County recorded its highest number of daily COVID-19 cases on Monday at 360.
This update brings the new total number of cases that have been identified in the county to 13,557. 140 of those individuals have passed away from the virus.
County Public Health recognized that this surge in cases comes just two weeks after the Thanksgiving Holiday, as anticipated by health experts. They said it is directly tied to residents gathering with friends and family from outside their household.
“Today’s positive case count surpasses any daily count we have seen to date, and underscores the predictions we have anticipated if people continue to gather with those outside of their immediate households,” said Van Do-Reynoso, Director of the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department. “We are at a critical state of urgency with ICU bed availability

Farm and poultry workers gathered near the State Capitol building on Nov. 5, urging state officials to set stricter COVID-19 rules for their workplace.
Esmeralda Dominguez moved to the United States from Tamaulipas, Mexico ten years ago. Back home, she was a school teacher, but in order to support her then-growing family, she worked at a cucumber farm in eastern North Carolina.
“The shifts are long and grueling. You can barely take breaks,” Dominguez said. “During peak seasons, you have to work overtime. It’s really harsh”
Dominguez says that even when working overtime, agricultural and meatpacking workers can barely get by. She and some of her coworkers relied on organizations like the Episcopal Farmworkers Ministry to make ends meet.
