DEARBORN, Mich. – April is National Donate Life Month, a time to celebrate the generosity of those who have saved lives by becoming organ, tissue, bone marrow donors and by making blood donations.
The people who have received those donations are grateful every day. Mohamed El-Souri is a Dearborn college student. He was born in the United States but spent most of his childhood in Lebanon.

BILLINGS - Recovery from a severe injury or burn can drastically enhance the quality of someoneâs life. Thatâs the message from a Billings woman who is empowering others to become organ and tissue donors.
April is Donate Life Month.
Roughly 1 in 20 people will need a tissue transplant in their lifetime, so recognition is given to those who have helped extend or enhance the lives of others during this time.
WUWM A Gift Eternal by artist Kierston Ghaznavi is one piece included in the new exhibit at America s Black Holocaust Museum.
African Americans in the United States are the largest ethnic group in need of organ transplants at 35%. In Wisconsin, more than 2,000 people are currently on the transplant list, and 400 of them are Black.
This according to Colleen McCarthy, vice president of Versiti Organ & Tissue Donation, a federally designated organ procurement organization.
“Organ donation is a rare opportunity. Every 10 minutes, another name is added to the national transplant waiting list, and every day 22 people die waiting for their second chance for an organ transplant,” she said.
