5 things to know from the River Falls City Council Meeting

The River Falls City Council approved the Mayor’s reappointment of Brenda Gaulke to the Park and Recreation Advisory Board through May 2024 at the July 27 common council meeting. The council also heard from Baker Tilly on the 2020 audit results, the Kinnickinnic River Land Trust on a request for city assistance, approved a couple of no parking ordinances and a lease to the LLC doing business as The Garage Bikes + Brews.  1. 2020 audit results The City of River Falls’ 2020 Audit was completed and presented by Baker Tilly at the July 27 council meeting. The audit presented no red flags and the council approved it. “The process went very smoothly,” stated the presenting auditor. “Everyone was very responsive and very prepared.”

Rescinding of the Emergency Declaration and other things to know from the River Falls City Council Meeting

Rescinding of the Emergency Declaration for the City of River Falls In response to the pandemic, the Mayor and the City Council passed a resolution declaring a local emergency on March 24, 2020 due to COVID-19. On June 8, 2021 the council rescinded that emergency declaration. The new ordinance states:  “The COVID-19 pandemic is not over… City staff is able to maintain a response as needed without impact to regular service delivery… The emergency declaration provided staff with flexibility and a mechanism for timely response. COVID-19 will continue to require staff, and Council, attention; however, current conditions do not require a deviation from standard practices and procedures. Therefore, the emergency declaration is no longer needed at this time.” 

St Croix EDC elects new officers

The St. Croix Economic Development Corporation (EDC) elected new officers and a board member for the 2021-2022 year at its annual meeting held remotely on Tuesday, May 11. Angela Popenhagen, the principal of Stevens Engineers of Hudson, was elected board president. She has served on the board since 2017. Popenhagen replaces Rob Kreibich who completed his term as president. Kreibich will continue to serve on the board and the executive committee as past president.  Aaron Sundeen, director of project development at Derrick Building Solutions of New Richmond, was elected first vice president.  Krista Paulus, relationship manager, commercial banking of Security Financial Bank of River Falls, was elected second vice president.
