There is much that lockdown 2.0 left for our Christmas list. The obvious: freedom, proximity to loved ones, good times in the company of close friends. And, falling as it did in October, some of my favourite â if more frivolous â eagerly anticipated autumn events.
This year there was no layering up under Halloween costumes to follow a frosty trick-or-treat trail. There was no misty breath mixing with bonfire smoke on fireworks night. No hot dogs at the half-term funfair as screams get swallowed by the foggy night. Thereâs been no carol singing with a mulled wine and a mince pie, and weâve scrapped our annual Christmas shopping expedition to see the lights. Well, have you seen the Oxford Street bunfight?
