A new strategy to combat flooding on the Broads could include a river barrier.
Construction of a multi-million pound river barrier to protect The Broads and Great Yarmouth from flooding is to be explored again.
The idea of a barrier on the River Yare was first mooted more than 60 years ago, but has never come to fruition.
But the Environment Agency said the merits or otherwise of such a barrier, or one on the River Bure, would be considered as a new strategy to reduce flood risk was put together.

Superintendent Dave Buckley, Norfolk’s county policing commander, said: We experienced heavy rainfall over Christmas which caused widespread flooding in the south Norfolk area. With fields already water-logged, there is the possibility of back roads flooding, with areas becoming difficult or even impossible to pass. For the safety of everyone; our communities and our emergency services, which are already stretched with the demands of the coronavirus pandemic, we’d ask people to avoid travelling over the next few days wherever possible. Any journey we make under current lockdown rules should be for an essential purpose, such as food shopping or caring for a vulnerable friend or relative.

A man has been sentenced after stealing thousands of pounds of equipment from boats on the Norfolk Broads.
Lester Lynn, of Church Road, Cantley, appeared at Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court on Friday, January 15, charged with two counts of theft and two of handling stolen goods.
The 29-year-old, who pleaded guilty to the offences at an earlier hearing, broke into the boats along the River Yare during the Easter lockdown last year.
