Savory Maine to Host Artist Reception

The Lincoln County News May 23, 2021 at Art by Polly Steadman is on display at Savory Maine in Damariscotta. Savory Maine in Damariscotta will host a closing reception and silent auction of the paintings by Damariscotta artist Polly Steadman from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26. Savory appetizers, sweet treats, wine, and refreshing beverages will be served. Steadman was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer last year and has been undergoing treatment. The reception will be a wonderful opportunity for friends and fellow artists to visit with her and wish her well. In the coastal Maine art community, Steadman has shown frequently at the Boothbay Region Arts Foundation as well as at River Arts in Damariscotta. She is also an active member of a cooperative group known as the Saltwater Artists Gallery in New Harbor.

Community invited to woman s 101st birthday anniversary

    ASHEVILLE, North Carolina (WLOS) The community will honor author Wilma Dykeman on Thursday, May 20, on what would have been her 101st birthday, and the public is invited to help celebrate. The celebration will take place from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday at 8 River Arts Place in Asheville, in the River Arts District. Dykeman has meant a great deal and been instrumental in the development of the French Broad Riverfront that the community recently named the new greenway after her. Here is a list of events to commemorate her birthday: 3 pm play reading: Actress Lauren Fortuna will read from an in-progress work: a one-woman play about Wilma Dykeman.

Toe River Arts hosts workshops and exhibitions celebrating printmaking

Toe River Arts announces the opening of two printmaking exhibitions - Pressing Forward and What a Relief! at the galleries at its Spruce Pine location, on display May 8 to June 5, 2021. What a Relief! a collection of relief woodblock prints by local artists, is an exhibition of large-scale woodblock prints made by 18 artists and students from Mitchell and Yancey counties who during the Big Ink workshop in October 2020. Continuing her artwork with watercolors and plein air painting for many years, Hanley-Warren also created works for Damariscotta Pottery, well known for its colorful Majolica pottery. The shop closed last year, and since then she has been focusing on her paintings.
