Following the nomination of free press advocate and Toms River High School North alumna Maria Ressa for the Nobel Peace Prize, district officials said Monday they will name the school’s newly renovated auditorium after her when the project is completed in September.
Ressa, 57, a Filipino-American journalist who co-founded the Manila-based investigative news site Rappler.com, was nominated for the prize by Norwegian labor leader Jonas Gahr Støre as part of a joint nomination with two international press freedom groups, Reporters Without Borders and the Committee to Protect Journalists.
