CLEVELAND, Ohio Today is Jim Brown’s 85th birthday. Recognized as possibly the greatest football player ever, Brown is one of 17 Browns who are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He played nine seasons in the NFL, all with the Browns. He still is the franchise’s leader in rushing yards (12,312) and rushing touchdowns (106).
After football, Brown went into acting with more than 50 film and TV action credits.
But there is a lot about Brown that fans might not know. In honor of Brown’s No. 32 jersey, here are 32 interesting facts about Brown both on and off the football field.

1. The comeback. The New England Patriots were dead in the 2017 Super Bowl. They trailed the Atlanta Falcons, 28-3, with less than 24 minutes remaining. Tom Brady wasn’t his usual self, completing 17 of 29 passes for 182 yards with an interception, having failed to generate a touchdown in the game’s first 36 minutes. Then Brady became his usual self, completing 21 of 26 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns over those final 24 minutes to forge a 28
4. 1972 Dolphins (won Super Bowl 7 / VII): Yes, it s the only team to win a Super Bowl without dropping a game (17-0), and there s no real counterargument for perfection. But it s also a lazy argument. Miami won its three postseason games by a combined 17 points. It also feasted on a horrid regular-season schedule that included just two teams finishing with winning records (both a middling 8-6). This isn t meant to shade the Fins and their No-Name Defense, a roster with six Hall of Famers plus Don Shula, the winningest coach in NFL history. But context matters, and it already seems a concession ranking the 72 Dolphins ahead of 1970s contemporaries in Pittsburgh, Dallas and even Oakland. A special group indeed but not the most special for my money.

Don Coryell arrived with a cutting-edge blueprint in the late 1970s, but his pass-happy teams fell short in January. Dan Fouts five INTs doomed the 79 Chargers against a depleted Oilers team; the Bolts regrouped to deploy a then-unprecedented three 1,000-yard receivers (John Jefferson, Kellen Winslow, Charlie Joiner) in 1980. The Raiders then secured a Super Bowl XV berth in San Diego. Air Coryell s peak and low point occurred in January 1982. After an epic OT win in Miami, the Chargers played in the NFL s coldest game (wind chill: minus-59 degrees). The Bengals Freezer Bowl rout nixed a tantalizing Coryell-Bill Walsh Super Bowl. San Diego s run ended soon after.
