Martine and Grace crossed paths at the hospital and had a disagreement about who Felix had feelings for. Elsewhere, Peri Lomax realised she double-booked their appointments for the same time, Peri broke up their dispute and said that only one of them would be able to see the doctor.
Grace started crying and without hesitation, Peri offered to let her go in to see the doctor, when Martine objected and asked about herself Peri told her to be more sympathetic. Martine s response was: What about sympathy for me? I have a lump too. I am terrified too.
Martine was told to stop being aggressive and to come back the next day for an appointment. When Martine got home, she began to answer questions on the written application form for Businesswoman of the Year. She answered a day-in-the-life question and explained how she had to put up with daily micro-aggressions and constantly has to prove herself to other people.
Prior to their hospital visit, the episode highlighted the ways in which unconscious bias impacted both Martine and Grace s lives due to stereotypes.
They were both late for scheduled deliveries, though the deliveryman only hassled Martine. During their interviews for Businesswoman of the Year, the interviewer offered Grace coffee and even agreed to give her extra time to chat.
The interviewer elsewhere suggested Martine had time-keeping problems, then later insisted she needed to make herself stand out from other diverse candidates . Lime Pictures
At the hospital, Martine and Grace argued over which one of them Felix truly loved, while nurse Peri Lomax panicked about double-booking them for the same appointment time.
The pair passionately kiss, but during their romantic moment they discover a lump on Martine s chest.
Later, during the special episode, we will then see both Martine and Grace visit the hospital to have an appointment with a specialist to find out whether the lumps they have both found on their breasts could be cancerous.
The appointments also fall on the day that both women have their interviews for the Businesswoman of the Year Award. Lime Pictures
While Grace s day goes off without a hitch, Martine has a very different experience and is actually turned away from the hospital by Peri Lomax (Ruby O Donnell), meaning that she doesn t get an opportunity to speak to the doctor at all.
Three weeks ago I took part in a television debate about the decision of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to publicly reveal the racism they claimed to have suffered as members of the royal family, and the impact on their mental health, he wrote. Since then I have been subjected to relentless racism myself on social media. I haven’t announced it. but I have been forced to step away from Twitter and Facebook myself, because it was getting too much. I am a strong person, but I am not made of steel. These are just the past few weeks of my own, very much lived experience of racism in Britain.
