On and Off the Beach, Destin Provides a Safe, Fun Family Escape

My New Orleans 01/27/2021   While we wait for international and cruise travel to become safe again, 2021 is a great year for beach vacations. New Orleans families can enjoy tropical breezes and relaxation in a safe, sanitized private vacation rental home or condominium along the exceptional beaches of South Walton and Destin, Florida. For more than 35 years, Newman-Dailey Resort Properties has been welcoming families to the beach and recommending locals’ favorites. While the soft, white sand beaches provide an outdoor playground for all ages, there is a wide variety of things to do in Destin beyond the beach itself. This year, consider trying one of these fun Destin activities (that also allow for social distancing).

Destin Fire Control District plans to buy the Bay House site for its new substation

DESTIN  By Dec. 28, Destin Fire Control District Chief Kevin Sasser and the district’s Board of Commissioners hope to close on a $2.4 million purchase of the historic Destin Bay House property on Calhoun Avenue, where they plan to set up the district’s new substation. The Bay House, an event venue that hosts weddings and other events, stands at 127 Calhoun Ave., with a dock on Choctawhatchee Bay and a view of nearby Crab Island. The 1-acre property also stands next door and south of the city-owned Clement Taylor Park at 131 Calhoun Ave. Earlier this year, more than 1,200 people, including current and former Destin residents, signed a petition opposing a proposal to build the substation at the 3.4-acre park.
